NEAR image of the day for 2000 Nov 15

Southern Hemisphere Overview NEAR Shoemaker caught this image of Eros' high southern latitudes on November 13, 2000, from an orbital altitude of 196 kilometers (122 miles). At the time, the spacecraft was mapping the color properties of surface materials. The camera was pointed toward an area directly under the Sun, to minimize the effects of shadows. Although this part of Eros lacks the visually stunning brightness variations in surface materials that characterize the interior of the crater Psyche, some of the larger craters do have the bright walls typical of larger craters elsewhere on the surface.
