Sunset on the Old Millennium This last NEAR Shoemaker image of Eros from the old millennium was taken on December 31, 2000, from an orbital altitude of 36 kilometers (22 miles). In a fitting closeout to a diverse year 2000 phase of Eros exploration, this picture captured several intriguing landforms all at the same time: the field of boulders at the lower right, the degraded-rimmed crater at the center of the image, and the lobate--a tongue-like feature on the crater's floor that appears at the top of this image. The whole scene is about 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) across.
