Crease in the Saddle The NEAR Shoemaker camera took a look inside Eros' saddle during a stereo imaging sequence taken on September 6, 2000, from an orbital altitude of 101 kilometers (63 miles). In this part of Eros, ridges, grooves and resurfacing have heavily modified the asteroid's surface. The whole scene is 4.4 kilometers (2.7 miles) from top to bottom.
