Dimpled Eros NEAR Shoemaker photographed the region southeast of the large crater Psyche on December 8, 2000, from 179 kilometers (111 miles) above Eros. This end of the asteroid features a large pair of craters that form a prominent "dimple" -- an easy-to-spot landmark that provides a clear reference point on the surface. The picture covers a region about 6.6 kilometers (4.1 miles) across.
