NEAR image of the day for 2000 Dec 27

Typically Eros NEAR Shoemaker took this picture of a rather "typical" part of Eros on December 16, 2000, from an orbital altitude of 37 kilometers (23 miles). This view captures the essential characteristics of a high-resolution Eros image: the area is densely pocked with craters wider than 200 meters (660 feet), but the density of smaller craters is low and, at smaller scales, boulders dominate the surface. The whole scene is about 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) across.
