NEAR Laser Rangefinder results

Six perspective views of a three-dimensional shape model of 433 Eros. The mesh represents the scaled shape and the surface facets are color-coded according to the surface slope. The model contains 5.6 million observations from the NEAR laser rangefinder collected through July 24, 2000.

Top left: Observed gravity of Eros. Top right: Observed shape of Eros. Bottom left: Gravity field from the shape. This would be the gravity field if Eros had a homogeneous interior. Bottom right: Difference between observed gravity and gravity field from the shape. The difference indicates Eros has a homogeneous interior to a few percent.
